Unfortunately for parents everywhere, finding a great pediatric dentist can be hard. First off, there are so many of them in every major city that often times parents are simply overwhelmed by all of their choices. There are so many different ones to choose from that it’s hard for them to narrow down their search at all. On top of that, there are a significant number of pediatric dentists that just aren’t all that great. Everyone thinks that they’ll be great working with kids and that they enjoy being around them until they’re around them all day. That’s when people’s true colors show through, and for many pediatric dentists, working with kids all day eventually turns into a more stressful experience than an enjoyable one.
Of course, there are plenty of great ones out there; you just have to know where to look. The following is a list of three things that you should be looking for in your kid’s dentist. Stick to this list and you should be able to find a great pediatric dentist in no time.
1. Great With Kids. The first thing that you should be looking for in a pediatric dentist is that they’re great with kids. They should rival school teachers in their ability to get kids to listen to them, to engage them, and to keep them entertained throughout their visit. Kids aren’t like adults when they visit the dentist. They want to squirm around in their chair and it’s hard for them to focus. It take a true professional who loves working with kids to be able to keep their patience. They need to know how to talk to children to get them to cooperate, and they need to have things in their office to entertain the child should the need arise. Finding a dentist with a great personality is key.
2. Great Reviews. The second thing that you should be looking for in your pediatric dentist is outstanding reviews. It truly won’t take you longer than just a couple of minutes to check out some review sites online and see what past parents have said about a dentist. Stay away from dentists with loads of bad reviews, and try and target the ones with more good reviews than bad ones.
3. Great Communication. It’s critical that you find a pediatric dentist who excels in communication. This not only means that they’re great at talking with your child, but it also means that they communicate with you about the kind of work your child needs done and why they need to have it. It also means that they’re able to clearly explain to you how your child could take better care of their teeth and what you as a parent can do to improve their oral health.
Southmoor Pediatric Dentistry is a great example of a kids’ dentist that’s great working with kids, that has an outstanding reputation, and that does a great job with each child they see. If you want to be sure your kids are in good hands, then they’re the dental office you should visit.
